This is how Germany does jacked up trucks. This is the Mercedes G500 4X42.
It’s only a show concept for now, but the latest interpretation of the G Wagen is based on the already ostentatious long wheelbase model, except Mercedes went absolutely crazy this time.
For example, it has 17.7 inches of ground clearance, which is insane once you realize that’s more than double what a normal G Wagen offers. Under the hood you’ll find Mercedes twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 making 422 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Those are some big numbers, but try this on for size.
If this thing were a production model, Mercedes says it would be available with 22-inch alloy wheels or 18-inch wheels with 37-inch beadlock tires. Approach and departure angles are 52 and 54 degrees respectively. Meanwhile the breakover angle is 47 degrees.
In other words, the 4X42 doesn’t just drive over some of the things. It drives over all of the things.
This is just a concept car for now, but it also looks about as ready for production as they come. In fact, the model on the floor in Switzerland is fully functional.
Mercedes appropriately chose Geneva for its debut to catch attention from well-heeled drivers scoping out the latest exotics for their collections. If they respond with enough positive feedback, this monster might very well make the transition from being a conceptual preview to series production.
That only leaves one question: what do you think about it?
