2016 Toyota Tacoma revealed ahead of Detroit Auto Show

Toyota is ready to “take it to the next level.” The Tacoma pickup, that is.

Ahead of its official introduction at the North American Auto Show on Jan 12th, the automaker has released the first pictures of its all-new midsize pickup. The new “Taco” features a larger, hexagonal grille, narrower headlamps, and more detail stamped into the doors and tailgate, but retains a familiar overall look.

Mechanical details have not yet been revealed, but it looks about the same size as the current truck and Toyota promises it will have “new, rugged tech” and that its “off-road prowess is more formidable than ever.”

This will be the first major overhaul in a decade for the Tacoma, which is far and away the best-selling midsize pickup in America. But it’s facing new competition this year from the all new Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which offer more power and efficiency than Toyota’s current truck.
