FJ Cruiser: The Most Underrated Off-Road Vehicle

When it comes to off-roading, the Jeep Wranlger tends to hog the spotlight. In our opinion, they’re overrated. Sure they’re great for off-roading. But experts say they have low safety and reliability scores.

If you’re looking for a ride that is fun to drive on and off roads, you can’t go wrong with the Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The FJ Cruiser can match other off-roading vehicles. It packs a V6 engine with 260 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. With its electronically controlled locking rear differential, you can get traction under most circumstances whether it’s off roads or on a snowy road in your neighborhood. Just take a look at this FJ in this off-road test video.

Unlike competing off-road vehicles that shall not be named, the FJ Cruiser gets a high safety rating. It features Toyota’s Star Safety System. This includes:

 - Vehicle Stability Control - Active Traction Control
 - Multi-Terrain 4-Wheel Anti-Lock Brake Systems
 - Brake Assist
 - Smart Stop Technology

It’s one of the reasons it scored a 9.4 out of 10 in U.S. News & World Report’s safety rating. By comparison, the 2013 Wrangler scored a 7.1 in terms of safety.

With the FJ Cruiser, you get an all-around good ride. The interior is quiet and comfortable and the engine packs a lot of power.

For those that are hesitant to purchase a Toyota for off-roading, Toyota has a rich off-roading tradition. The Toyota J40 was a tough off-roading vehicle built from 1960 to 1984. It provided the inspiration for the FJ Cruiser.

We recommend taking the FJ Cruiser for a test drive. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by its power and safety features. It’s the best of both worlds!
